Grandmaster Abel Villareal, a 9th degree Black Belt, has been studying martial arts since 1960. He began studying Tae Kwon Do in Korea under the direct teachings of Tae Kwon Do creator General Choi.
This opportunity came to Grandmaster Villareal in Korea as he worked with the ‘White Horse Division’ also known as the Korean Special Forces.
Grandmaster Villareal continued his training during his tour in Vietnam and later went on to bring Tae Kwon Do to his hometown of Austin, Texas.
Within his career Grandmaster Villareal also held the title of ‘World Champion’ in Professional Kickboxing. He retired with a flawless record of 33 wins in 33 fights, all by knockout. He was the oldest Professional Kickboxer in the world still competing, often being almost twice the age of his fellow competitors.
When Grandmaster Villareal fought for the world championship against Kenneth Penn it was predicted by ESPN that Kenneth would knock him out in the third round because of his enormous size and strength (6’4" tall and 265 pounds). Grandmaster Villareal knocked him out within 30 seconds of the first round.
Over 40 years ago Grandmaster Villareal opened his first Martial Arts school in Austin, Texas. His schools have produced more martial arts world champions than any other school in the world.
Grandmaster Villareal was honored in 2001 by being one of two people to be inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame. The other gentleman who was inducted was Mr. Chuck Norris.
